When you have a high performance life, run a company, train hard like an athlete, oh and have three kids, quality supplements are what give you the extra edge.
I don’t drink coffee so I like to get a little bit of caffeine as a pre-workout for my training session. Caffeine has proven to be an excellent performance enhancer.
Also, many years ago in the public speaking world I discovered the power of L-theanine as a natural supplement that calms the brain and helps you focus.
Well, guess what happens when you combine these two? You get an unreal surge of lasting energy, great clarity and focus, and no crashes. A combination like this is known as a nootropic. A nootropic is basically a natural or synthetic substance that may have a positive impact on mental skills. Researchers and scientists are quick to say “may.” But like I always say, don’t take my word for it. Try it for yourself and you’ll see what I mean.
Here’s what I take. As always, I can’t recommend any dosage. I’m just sharing what I personally do myself.
Zhou’s CAFFEINE + L-THEANINE combo
It’s 100mg of caffeine (about a big cup of coffee) and 200mg of L-theanine. I like to take it 6 days a week then take one day off to get a break from it. This I find keeps it stimulating the body. For me it also helps avoid any “tolerance.”
Vitamin B12 Complex: B-Right by Jarrow
Wow, when I did blood work I discovered I was extremely deficient in B’s. In fact, many people are. My functional med doc recommended a high dose of B’s to get my levels back up. I was dealing with adrenal fatigue at the time too, so my energy levels were plummeting. I can’t imagine not taking this B complex. Call it placebo, I don’t know. But as soon as I take it I feel the energy come and it lasts all day.
Supplements are just that; supplemental. Real food should always be the main focus. But let’s face it, we are extremely disciplined people who eat as healthy as we can and no matter what we do, it’s really hard to get all the nutrients and minerals we need. Supplements just help. That’s all. And when it comes to my lifestyle demands for my energy levels, the brain power and energy boost are game-changers!
