Action step: prepare your :60 second elevator speech, 5 minute brief share, and eventually 30 minute version of your testimony. I dont know if you know this, but your testimony is a WEAPON against the enemy!

Revelation 12:10-11 hit home one day. It reinforced some concepts about how to best share our personal testimonies.

First read verse 10: “And I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying, “Now the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Christ have come, for the accuser of our brothers has been thrown down, who accuses them day and night before our God.”

The accuser is Satan. What do we mean by “accuse?” Stuff like, “you’re not truly saved.” “You are a sinner who can’t be forgiven.” “You don’t belong in the kingdom.” “Look what you just did. See. You’re hypocrites who are not worthy to enter the pearly gates.”

But God has all power over salvation and Christ was given authority to come and cast down the devil from his ability to accuse us before God. Jesus stands in the gap (intercedes) for us believers. The enemy and his instruments cannot lay anything to the charge of God’s elect, when it is God that justifies our redemption and reconciliation through the death and resurrection of Christ. (Romans 8:33-34.)

So that’s why we stand on the “blood of the lamb” as our assurance for salvation.

“You’re right Satan. I fall short. But Jesus’s atoning sacrifice saved me.”

This is one important reason for confession. “Let us take heed that we give him (Satan) no cause to accuse us; and that, when we have sinned, we go before the Lord, condemn ourselves, and commit our cause to Christ as our Advocate.” (Matthew Henry commentary)

“So ha! Correct Satan, I will never be perfect. But I am being sanctified. ‘If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.’ (1 John 1:9) So get outta here in the name of Jesus!”

The enemy can’t accuse us before God once saved. But he will accuse us with negative thoughts in our minds to mess with us. We push him out, away, and conquer him by the truth of the Gospel.

Now, here’s verse 11 “And they have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, for they loved not their lives even unto death.”

Our testimony is a witness to what Jesus did, does, and continues to do in our lives. From the moment of conversion we begin to leave the old life and walk in newness, for we do not love our lives in a selfish way anymore. We are willing to sacrifice all for Jesus, even unto death.

Sharing our personal Testimonies are powerful in the spiritual war against the enemy because it’s healing to our own hearts to revisit and rejoice in our transformation, thus building confidence in our deliverance from his power. But also, our testimonies show others the power of Jesus in our lives, so that they too may be connected, convinced, or convicted in their own relationship & walk.

I used to share my testimony and focus too much on how I changed, not emphasizing enough of Who changed me.

So now here’s a little tip to help you as you prepare yours.

Incorporate the full Gospel of Sin, Savior, and So what (confession & repentance).

What type of sin did you leave, overcome, recognize when you discovered Jesus?

What truth did you discover about our savior Jesus Christ through his death and resurrection?

How have you confessed, repented, and become continually changed (sanctified) through the work of Jesus Christ and the gift of His Holy Spirit in your life?

Dave and Kate shared their testimony this past Sunday at church. They did an awesome job of doing this. They taught us who they were. What happened when they encountered Jesus. How they have continually grown in their relationship with Him. And who they are today because of their abiding relationship to Him.

It’s your turn to start prepping. Write out some notes and decide if you’re getting your :60 second, 5-minute, or 30-minute version done!

Bonus: Need Help with Scripture?:

I shared a lot of great Scripture in this article. As you read them it will help you reflect on what to consider incorporating into your own personal testimonies.
